Symmetrical floral wallpaper is an interesting illusion. The mirrored motifs depict foliage, blooms, buds, and blossoms, and some incorporate other elements like birds, fruit, and other animals, and when observed up close, the design signs a certain song - but once you take a step back, you can get an entirely new melody.

Often presenting with a more traditional, vintage, and heritage feel, symmetrical floral patterns for walls are commonly inspired by the works of William Morris and the arts and crafts movement, of the damask artwork of centuries past.

These designs tend to offer a maximalist, dense, and busy pattern, and yet can feel subdued and anchoring in a space.

Here are a few symmetrical floral wall covering options to inspire your next home interior design project.

  1. Sunflower Meadow

This whimsical sunflower floral wallpaper design was originally inspired by the feathers of a peacock. But as the pattern was worked through, and the design honed and edited down, the sunflowers emerged as the star feature (and the peacock was removed altogether!).

  1. Painterly Poppy

With loose painterly strokes, this symmetrical poppy pattern is based in simplicity. There is minimal layered of colour or texture, and foliage is paired down to just the essentials. An interesting function of this design is the vertical and horizontal definition that is created once the repeat is fully seen. From a distance, the tiled aesthetic of this pattern becomes more clear.

  1. Vintage Woodland

This flowing and delicate mirrored floral wallpaper pattern brings forward a sense of calm whimsy. The smoothing winding vines are simple and dainty, allowing for plenty of negative space. Motifs are influenced by nature and call to nature with pinecones and leafy botanicals.

  1. Ground Cover

A dense, layered floral wall covering print rich with floral motifs and interwining vines, this mirrored pattern is deeply inspired by the arts and crafts movement. The detailed line-work on the leaves, petals, and stems are intentionally pointing to the styles of that movement.

  1. Rose Garden

A test of traditional mediums, this design stated as a sketch with a fine point ink pen, providing the pattern with an authentic hand-drawn look and feel. Filled with various flowers, the motifs are relatively simple, with minimal line-work or detailing.

  1. Rustic Vine

Another pattern design that blends traditional and digital mediums, this rustic floral damask print was created with hand-drawn vines and wildflowers sketches, then assembled and filled using digital mediums. Based in the tradition of damask, seen through the mirrored layout - this design embraces a modern take with looser and more contemporary motifs.

  1. Heritage Peony

A mirrored floral pattern inspired by art nouveau and the arts and crafts movement, with large peonies, budding flowers, plus organic, winding leaves and vines. Relatively simple motifs and colour palettes with negative linework providing additional detail to petals and foliage.

  1. Wood Lily

Inspired by the wood lily native to the forests and prairies of North America, this pattern design is inspired by the spotted floral. With intertwining stems and blooming flowers, this botanical pattern design encorporates scrolling acanthus leaves, acorns, and creeping vines for a whimsical cabincore aesthetic.

More symmetrical florals will be add to this post - so save it for later!
